I'm excited to let everybody know that I have recently joined the Board of Banyan Community, a non-profit rooted in the Phillips Neighborhood that helps transform lives by developing youth, strengthening families, and creating community.

Banyan's college youth are dynamic, confident, and filled with hope for the future. Most are the first in their families to attend college and are pursuing careers that will make a positive impact in our community. Help us build bridges for these leaders by joining us at our Annual Banyan Leadership Breakfast!

I would like to invite you to be my guest at our Leadership Breakfast coming up on Friday, April 12th! There's no cost to attend, but an RSVP is required. Please contact me to reserve your seat at my table!

April 12, 2019, 7:30 - 9:00 AM
Doors open at 7:00 AM

Location:
Banyan Community
2529 13th Ave S, Minneapolis

Please contact me to reserve your seat at my table!

More About Banyan Community:

We are a community development organization in the Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis. This is a neighborhood that has 30% of children living in poverty. The neighborhood four year high school graduation rate is 66% (57% for African Americans and Latinos). The median family income is $46,000. The unemployment rate is 10%, and the poverty rate is 31%. Crime is a constant with gangs, prostitution, and drugs.

Banyan is a Christian community development organization in which youth, family and community are synchronized to achieve the greatest impact. Youth attend programs to succeed in school, build life skills, develop assets, and cultivate healthy relationships. Family is strengthened with Banyan staff bringing together parents and children. Parents learn how to advocate for their children. Community is strongest when neighbors know each other and begin to care for each other. The Lighthouse Network is Banyan’s brand of community building through block clubs. Wilder Foundation research indicates that for every dollar spent on Banyan youth, there's an $8 return to the community.

The high school graduation rate of Banyan youth of color is 98%! The graduation rate of kids of color in Minneapolis public schools is 57%.
